Affiliate Marketing Right for my Business?

So you have products that you want to sell online, but you are having trouble. You do not know how to get the traffic you need to your website. You have tried pay-per-click, you have tried placing ads, but nothing seems to be working out the way you thought. The Internet is such a big place, there are millions of people out there, how do I put my product in front of them.

Setting up an affiliate program could be right for you. What is it? Essentially, when you want to build an affiliate program around your product line… the idea is to get affiliate marketers to resell your products through their websites or networks. If all done correctly, this can be great for any business. You are basically building a sales force that works on commission.

First step is to find the right company to work with, the big ones are PayDotCom, Commission Junction and Clickbank. You can partner up with any of these companies to get your product line out there. These companies mainly give you access to affiliate marketers.

You can also work with companies like Direct Track, Hit Path or Link Trust. These companies are smaller but serve a different function. They have the hosting infrastructure and software required to run the affiliate program.

There is also very affordable software that you can buy that will do the work for you, but it is limited. You get what you pay for. If you want to run a small network, then the do-it-yourself software could be right for you.

After you decide which route to go with setting up the affiliate software and what company to work with to reach the affiliates… then it is on to setting up the pay plan. How much of a % do you want to give away every time a product is sold. The higher the better to attract the affiliates.

The goal is to work with the right company that you can afford, build the right pay plan, then of course setup the right marketing plan. Support is always important and you need to support your network.

The marketing plan can be setup in many different ways. You can go the free marketing route and the Web 2.0 route.
